Senior Design Engineer Aerospace – 8+ Years’ Experience
Hybrid Remote from Europe | Aerospace Seating Experience | 8+ years of Post-Degree Practice in Seating Only (other sectors won’t be considered as relevant work experience)
Butterfly Flexible Seating Solutions (BFSS) is a Hong Kong-based seating company that designs, develops and commercializes new and innovative design solutions in various transport sectors. We are currently looking for an experienced senior design engineer to join our aero seating product development team in our Belfast engineering subsidiary (BFEN).
The successful candidate will join our engineering, FEM, and certification experts to support the final development and industrialisation work to bring our award-winning flexible seating solutions to market. As part of a small, highly motivated, multicultural team, the post holder need to understand the overall corporate picture of a growing organisation as well as he/she needs to deliver detailed engineering solutions.
In addition to creating 3D conceptual designs, our design engineers usually produce 2D drawings and provide input regarding suitable hardware, components, materials, and processes.
All colleagues are expected to interface with other internal departments and liaise with external suppliers/service providers. Henceforth, effective communication skills are definitely essential for us in all aspects of the daily business.
Design Engineers are responsible for:
Providing design solutions for the functional operation of the seat mechanisms and modules.
Designing and developing components across the product lifecycle; with particular emphasis on providing design concepts and designing for manufacture and ease of assembly.
Developing component and assembly designs to align with requirements for each critical design milestone; ITCM, PDR, CDR, FAI.
Ensuring all designs adhere to the relevant standards and BFEN’s design manuals.
Creating 2D drawings in accordance with the selected manufacturing process and factory abilities and managing BOMs.

The position will play a key role in the engineering and certification of the Butterfly seat. Education & Experience
Master degree or “Diplom Engineer” in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering.
Have a minimum of 8 years’ experience working in the aerospace or aerospace seating sector. Applications with less work experience cannot be considered.
Essential Criteria
Experience of designing aerospace metallic and composite components
Experience of designing the functional operation of mechanisms and modules
Experience in producing 2D drawings employing GD&T tolerancing
Knowledge of following standard design guidelines and procedures
Experience of designing products that spans the full product lifecycle
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Competent user of Microsoft Office products
Flexible approach regarding working hours
Desirable Criteria
Experience of using Solidworks
Experience of using PDM and PLM systems
Knowledge of CAA, EASA and FAA regulations and the product certification process
Experience with thermoplastics
Experience with electrical components
